hiya gary, the best tip i can offer is keep them moving the more they are active the less they get bored.
1 game you could try which i find my players love, is make 2 teams and set up 2 goals. in the middle of the pitch, have the teams standing in 2 lines 1 team facing 1 goal and another facing the other goal. when you blow the whistle, have each team member in turn run with the ball and score in the goal, then they have to retrieve their ball and score in the other goal, then join the back of the line.once the player is back in line the next person in their team can go.
My players love this excercise, as it gives them a chance to control the ball, practice dribbling with the ball, and also scoreing.

| Hi Gary, 1. Join FACA (FA Coaches Association) by contacting your local County FA. 2. Try the internet (Amazon.com/books) for dozens of publications on coaching kids. 3. Young players have very short attention spans so vary your practices every 15-20 minutes to keep them focussed. 4. ALWAYS finish a session with a small-sided game (Maximum 4 v 4 - so be prepared to have more than one game running concurrently). 5. Remember these are not young adults you are coaching - so adapt your coaching style by encouraging and not continually instructing them what to do. With young players, less intervention is more! i.e. let them experiment with game situations. 6. ASk them open-ended questions (those questions that avoid a Yes/No answer) as to what they may have done better in a particular situation. When they hit upon a possible correct answer then give them praise and watch them grow! 7. To allow kids to enjoy the game and maximise their number of ball touches, don't keep stopping it. Instead pull out an individual and ask him the open-ended question whilst the others continue the game. 8. Concentrate on praise and NOT criticism! Hope this helps! GTQ
