| Hi, first time poster, hopefully someone will be able to help. I am currently managing/coaching an U16 side, and whilst we are doing very well, and developing into a very good side, I am looking for some advice on how to improve further, or just some different things to do in training. Maybe some idea's on different SSGs, or anything else. Any advice welcome.

| This is a great age to work with if they have had a reasonable football education upto this age. Although the basic techniques of control, passing , heading and shooting etc etc are vital for any player at any age, at this age its also possible to delve deeper into the tactical side of things and the players understanding of the game is at a more completed point than when they are early teens and children. As the lads around this age group are possibly close to adult football then working on their physical strength in tackling situations and in general is something very beneficial they are are at an age where there body development is at a point where they are more adaptable to physical work with light weights etc. One bit of advice from experience is at under 16 the players are at an excellent standard of football and have the comitment i did find though towards the end of under 17 (apart from cup finals when everybody gets interested again ha ha) and especially into under 18 when the players have different options and distractions (cars, jobs, girls etc) then it can become frustrating from a coach / managers point of view. I dont think my lads were exceptional as most teams managers at differeing standards were telling me they experienced pretty much exactly the same at the same age groups. If you have been with this group a while then this season and next you could truly see the fruits of your labour - ENJOY!
