| LA Galaxy's David Beckham, 33, is going on loan to AC Milan from January to April next year. Not sure LA Galaxy fans will be too impressed, any injuries he gets will not be shrugged off easily at his age. Good for England though - coming off the bench with 10 minutes to go a fit, competitive Beckham will be outstanding.

| I'd agree, Dave. It can't be good for LA or the MLS in general if he gets seriously injured. But being over here in N. America now, I'd say he hasn't really had the impact I thought he might. Our MLS team in Toronto sells out every game even though we stink! Beckham's presence here makes little to no difference to attendance although I do see a lot of kids at soccer camps wearing LA Galaxy #23 shirts. But even that is (quite sadly for this Gooner) not even close to the number of Manchester Utd. shirts I see - especially ones with a #7 on the back. I had a little U8 practice game last Sunday - 12 kids. 5 Man. Utd. shirts! Ugh!!! I think his presence in Italy is really neither here nor there to AC Milan. They've got so many huge stars it won't be a disruption and the Becks family can shop till they drop! They'll find all sorts of silly things to wear and be photographed in, I'm sure. Although I've never been a huge Beckham fan, I do agree that he will be good for England provided we qualify (nearly there). If his attitude is right about what his role will be and assuming Capello picks him (not a sure thing), then he could be valuable off the bench and also as an older player in the dressing room. I thought in the last World Cup, England was often more effective when Aaron Lennon came on the right side of midfield. Not always but often - he would run at defenders which isn't Beckham's game obviously. Now it seems that Theo Walcott, to me, is even better than Lennon or Beckham and, putting my Arsenal bias aside, I think he could be a superstar at the 2010 World Cup - his international coming out party!

| Beckham coming to America was nothing more than a shirt sale stunt. I will not take anything away from his talent and I enjoy seeing him play for England. I think he made a mistake coming to MLS and wants out. I think he will find some way to get out of this contract and leave MLS. He has not brought out the crowd that everyone thought he would. Soccer is just not the sport here that it is in the rest of the world. I don't know how that is going to change; maybe with more Americans playing abroad. Good for Milan; they will get even more publicity. Good for England; they will get a fit Beckham for friendlies and qualifiers. Bad for MLS/Galaxy. We need to concentrate on our own youth developement for the game and need to send our best players to play in the best world leagues to let the world know we as Americans are serious about soccer.
