Quick throw-ins are the only way to go. My son's team was in the midst of their playoffs and unable to get a goal. My son, who just won a throw in, realized the defense wasn't set and wanted to do a quick throw-in. Unfortunately our offense also wasn't set. Not wanting to let the opportunity to go away he threw the ball in the hopes it would hit a player and he can then play the ball.
Turns out - in the confusion the ball went right through the defense and the goalie fumbled the ball for a goal! It turned out to be our only goal in the game!

| quick throw ins are the only way to go and should be used as an effective attacking tool. All of my 8 years olds have it drilled into them that when the ball goes out that the player closest to the ball picks the ball up and throws it into space down the line as fast as possible . This works very effectively as the opposition often dont have the defences in place by then especially at this age group giving a winger a run on goal . Try it , it works . Regards Grant

I see to many teams prepare so hard for the next game yet they all ways seem to forget or give no importance to the trow-in which could be one of the most deathlys

I see so many team come well prepared to play but for some reason never seem to be prepared for the throw-in which could be extremly deadly if done correctly.

| I agree with liverpool69 above, I've always taught my lads (also U8) to just pick up the ball and get it back in play. Too many teams up here have a "throw-in taker" who spends most of the match chasing back and forth just to take a throw. yep, even if he's a left full back he's the one to take the throw on the right wing - poor lads they're absolutely shattered by the end of the game because they're expected to take EVERY throw-in. A throw can be as good as a free kick if delivered properly and getting the lads to practice them at training by just seeing who can throw it the furthest (don't worry about the odd leg in the air on delivery - the correct technique shall come with time) and then chase after the ball is a great warm routine. Try it!
