| Two players in my team have bundles of ability but do not want to work as hard the rest of the team The one player was our top scorer last season and has done a reasonable job in most positions. He has been asked to play in but i know with a lot more effort he could have done himself and the team so much better. The other player has the most powerful right foot and performed to his full potential in one or two games but in training is second to none I know my job as a coach is to try and get these two into the top bracket but what is the best way to do it? Any body got any ideas because this is the most frustrating aspect of coaching my team

Set the standard. Communicate to the team you need skill and heart to play. If they are been lazy after 5 minutes of a game pull them off for the rest and tell them if they cannot play with heart they can't play for your team. They will either get better or bitter. If it's the latter you can probably develop other team members into better players anyway. They are no doubt gifted and nobody ever tuned them in, doing so may be the best gift you can give them.

| just come home from my under 10s team presentation, ive just told them I expect nothing less than 100 per cent for next season, their first at 11 a-side. I told them the best player in the world with a poor attitude is no good to me, a lesser player with a good attitude is worth alot more to me.

| First, Its NOT about ability but DEPENDABILITY. Second, A Great player can win ANY game, but ONLY a great TEAM can win a League. The way I would do is to tap into each of their ego's and set them BOTH the same challenge. CAN you have MORE shots on goal than the other? CAN you make MORE successful passes than the other? CAN you make MORE successful tackles than the other? In THIS way you WILL be nudging their own ego to motivate themselves. Players like these love challenges. Also, it would be wise to video the NEXT match BEFORE you make these challenges and to make 2 copies and ensure BOTH players watch it to see for themselves how they are playing poorly.
