They were all good players on weak teams and have come together to challenge the best teams. However we constantly struggle with the basics that were not taught early enough to these girls. I am not reffering so much to skills though for sure things such as first touch are too often over looked by junior coaches... rather movement off the ball, passing into channels instead of to a player marked, marking up properly.
We play lot's of 4 v 4 and I think we are doing things right, but any nuggets that could accelerate the process would be appreciated. These girls played too long on poor teams were nobody was ever open and so they are used to too much 1 v 1 in the wrong situations. They are still a second / third place team in a very strong league, but if we could only get the simple stuff mastered... Steven Bergg The poor mans billy Bremner on the pitch and Don Revie off it!
