| Hi. I coach U10 girls and many teams will intentionally kick the ball out of bounds rather than risk play in front of their goal. Even though they have possession, they'd rather give the other team the ball with a throw in than risk that they will lose possession in front of the goal. I'm not sure I agree with this logic. What do you all think or do?

I find that with some teams and I think it is an odd way of coaching to be honest. It is like the coach does not trust the players to find a pass or to panic into a mistake. This cannot be good for the kids confidence, they need to make the mistakes and the coach really needs to have more faith in the coaching process.....maybe he is not signed up to the smart sessions yet!!
He shoots, He scores!!

| When a player is under pressure from an attacker and there is no obvious support for a safe pass, I would encourage my players to rather put the ball out. But I agree that generally with support available one should aim to keep possession. And it should not happen often that no support is available. Then the defense isn't moving properly. This is my opinion.

| it depends on what kind of pressure the defense is under. if they are outnumbered defensively or under pressure from the other team, it's quite acceptable to concede possession to give yourself time to get defenders back and organised. if they are under no pressure, however, then it's stupid to give the ball away. it might work at the current age group but it's hardly likely to produce competent players who are comfortable on the ball.
