Having bought the book, it is good for new coaches, who have little experience of coaching.

It gradually introduces elements of tactical issus such as width, penetration, support and positional play in defence. It is a great book to buy or ayone looking for simple ideas to help run effective sessions whilst giving the players lots of ball contact.

It would be good to see a new book come out for advanced coaches, looking to work on positional rotation, zonal and man marking games, and advanced combination play to break down tight defences. Also, games to teach players how to create overload situations via beating players, working on using skills in certain scenarios ie chasing a loose ball, 1v2 with an overlap.

This would be good as once a coach improves with help from book 1, then 2nd book would be a good seller and would help the coach grow with their players.

Stevie

Give the player the knowledge, and he will give the game the answers to succeed.

yeah it would be nice to see a more advanced book/pdf/dvd, but these small sided games can be adjusted to suit your needs.  i love 'em.

Hi Stevie,

Thanks for your comments. Beyond the overload games in 64 Small-Sided Games we have some drills by Michael Beale that might be of use. There is quite a large section of drills to teach combination play in his Football Attack! book. If you want to drop me a message with your email address I'll see if I can send a couple over to you.

Out of interest, how long have you been coaching?
