| This is a basic rule for U14, House League - Canada. Can the goalkeeper receive a pass from the defense? I was always under the impression they could. Several of my team players said their school coach said it's illegal. Now is their a difference betwen handling with the foot and handling with the hands? Dan

| Dan Can't coment about the Canada under 14 league but the FIFA rules allow for the ball to be passed to the goalkeeper by the defence but the goalkeeper is barred from using his/her hands to play the ball from this pass. This also applies to the ball passed to goalkeeper from a throw in. Obviously from the opposition the goalkeeper has the full use of his/her hands within the confines of the 18 yard box. Gordon

| Hi Dan Yes, the defence can pass it back to the goalkeeper, but the goalkeeper must use his feet to deal with an intended pass from any of his own team. If he handles the ball from an intended pass from his own team it will be an indirect free kick to the opposition. If his own side head it or chest it or even thigh it back to him, he can handle it, but not if they kick it back to him with intent. The key word is intent. If a player miss kicks while aiming away from the goalkeeper, the goalie can pick it up. Hope this is helpful Farmer Smith
