| Hello to all, I have recently joined this forum and would like any advice that you may like to give. I started an under 12's team in the summer of 07. For our first season we are in a development league where no scores are recorded due to non competitive aspect, I have a squad of 20 kids who have all been given a fair chance on the pitch, sometimes they get rotated on match day sometimes they miss a match and play nearly all the game the following match. This being my first ever team and having 20 kids, I have learned 20 kids is obviously to much to manage and I need to let some of them go at the end of the season. How do you think the best way of releasing players without causing to much hurt to the parents and especially the kids? I will try and get the kids trials with other teams but what do you think the best approach would be if I can't? Thanks

| I know your problem, having started in 2007 as a helper for a u13 team in N.Ireland. Before telling a players that you want to release them look around locally for another junior team that maybe they could try out for that dont have as high a standard as your own,but talk to the childs parents first and explain why you cant keep them on ,then tell the child but one thing tell them to keep playing .

| The way I release players is to get contact numbers of other local squads for them to contact. Explain to them that at this point in time their own playing time will be restricted as they are behind the other players in their developement at the moment. Never close the door on a player completely as they may come back to you in the future. Give them the option to train with the squad if they can not find else where to play.
