Meet the Team
|
|
Tony Carr - Editor
Tony was a West Ham youth player in the 1960s, cleaning the boots of World Cup legends Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, and Martin Peters. Injury brought an early end to his playing career but in 1973 he became Director of the West Ham Academy and since then he’s helped develop players of the calibre of Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, John Terry and many others going back through the years.
|
Tony edits Soccer Coach Smart Sessions and is a member of our Editorial Board.
|
Mike Beale - Editor
As Chelsea FC Youth Development Officer, Mike works closely with kids and young adults, developing talented players into the stars of the future. He was a professional with English Premier League club Charlton Athletic and FC Twente of the Eredivisie in the Netherlands before gaining just about every coaching qualification available – including the UEFA A Licence.
|
Mike’s coaching career has so far included spells at Chelsea FC Ladies, Crystal Palace FC Ladies and AFC Wimbledon U19s. Last year he was appointed as Chelsea FC Youth Development Officer.
Mike has a deep love and enthusiasm for the game, and he’s keen to share his knowledge and experience with coaches around the world.
Mike is the author of 64 Small Sided Games (Now Launched!) and The Ultimate Soccer Warm-Ups Manual. He contributes to many of our other publications and is a member of our Editorial Board.
|
David Clarke - Editor
David writes and edits Soccer Coach Weekly and is a member of our editorial board.
David’s record as a youth soccer coach is impressive. He has coached many teams in a range of age groups. All of his teams have two things in common – they play fluid, passing football, and they win just about everything in sight.
|
As well as being a successful coach, David is an experienced writer and publisher.
 |
Dwyer Scullion - Publisher
Dwyer is the Publisher responsible for our soccer coaching titles. In fact he road-tests most of our coaching advice with the junior teams he works with in his home village in north west Oxfordshire. With a background in publishing and training, Dwyer is concerned with how to extract the secrets of soccer coaching from our expert contributors and pass them on to our readers around the world.
|
When not hassling coaches for their latest tips and techniques, Dwyer spends most of his time upsetting the neighbours with his guitars and (dreadful) singing. He also enjoys cooking, eating, gardening, movies, books and amateur physics.

Duncan Heard - Customer Services Representative
The guardian of our customer service standards, Duncan’s job is to make sure
you are happy! If your newsletter is missing, your email address has changed or
you’d like to comment on any of our products, for better or for worse, Duncan’s your man.
|
A former leisure and fitness instructor, he is a qualified swimming coach and lifeguard.
Everyone in the office believes he secretly has shares in Starbucks. When not at
work, Duncan is a top class bowls player, having won five county titles, most recently
in 2003 when he was Surrey Singles Champion. The biggest cross he has to bear is
being a long-term supporter of Aldershot Town Football Club. Email: duncan.heard@newsletters.co.uk
 |
Julie Heathorn - Accounts Manager and Company Secretary
Kentish lass Julie has been accurately and efficiently managing the accounts and
company secretarial duties almost since she joined the company in 1998 with a first
class business studies degree.
|
Julie pays the wages, balances the books and is very strict about paying our bills
on time and doubles up as one of the most fastidious proofreaders and researchers
the publishing world has ever known. In her spare moments she’s walking her
Husky for two hours each morning, and seeing Snow Patrol, Stereophonics or Texas
in concert. Email: julie.heathorn@newsletters.co.uk
 |
Steve Nicholls - Marketing Operations Manager
With a background in marketing and frightening natural abilities with technology
and databases, Steve is the ideal person to manage our email marketing,
database, websites and servers.
|
A qualified marketing pro, his online marketing knowledge extends to being a shrewd paid search
operator and even more proficient eBay expert. This helps for buying cut-price kitchens
and other DIY bargains for he and his fiancee’s new house. Steve’s
evenings usually involve power drills or copper piping but he’ll always find
time to watch Formula One at the weekends. Judging by the way he drives, he wants
to be Jenson Button, but asks us to point out that his licence is clean.

Julie Lifton - Production Editor
Julie’s artistic talents don’t just reside in the QuarkXpress, Photoshop
and Illustrator programs, as she’s also skilled at batik, stained glass windows
and needlepoint. Most of your newsletters, training sessions and reports have been
laid out by Julie, who is a graduate of the Reigate School of Art and Design and
a regular attendee at evening classes ranging from art to singing.
|
Theatre, dinner with friends and long walks in the country are her favourite pastimes.
At home, Julie has been in the vanguard of those welcoming the rush of foreign labour
to these shores by opening her doors to several Polish lodgers.
