Tony Carr - Editor

Tony was a West Ham youth player in the 1960s, cleaning the boots of World Cup legends Bobby Moore, Geoff Hurst, and Martin Peters. Injury brought an early end to his playing career but in 1973 he became Director of the West Ham Academy and since then he’s helped develop players of the calibre of Rio Ferdinand, Frank Lampard, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, John Terry and many others going back through the years.

Tony edits Soccer Coach Smart Sessions and is a member of our Editorial Board.

Mike Beale - Editor

As Chelsea FC Youth Development Officer, Mike works closely with kids and young adults, developing talented players into the stars of the future. He was a professional with English Premier League club Charlton Athletic and FC Twente of the Eredivisie in the Netherlands before gaining just about every coaching qualification available – including the UEFA A Licence.

Mike’s coaching career has so far included spells at Chelsea FC Ladies, Crystal Palace FC Ladies and AFC Wimbledon U19s. Last year he was appointed as Chelsea FC Youth Development Officer.

Mike has a deep love and enthusiasm for the game, and he’s keen to share his knowledge and experience with coaches around the world.

Mike is the author of 64 Small-Sided Soccer Games and The Ultimate Soccer Warm-Ups Manual, Soccer Attack! and Perfect Defending. He contributes to many of our other publications and is a member of our Editorial Board.

Keith Boanas  - Editor

As Surrey County Football Association Coach Educator, Keith is responsible for the tutoring and assessing coaches taking their level 2 and level 3 certificates in the county.

Until January 2009 he was Assistant Director of the David Beckham Academy in London before moving to Estonia where he is now Technical Director for Women’s and Girl’s Football. His first national coaching position.

Keith’s coaching CV spans 29 years, a testament to the wealth of experience he has coaching soccer to boys, girls, men and women.

Keith is the author of Fun Soccer Games for 5 to 8 Year Olds.

David Clarke - Editor

David is head coach of Soccer Coach Weekly, editor of Better Soccer Coaching and is a member of our editorial board.

David’s record as a youth football coach is impressive. He has coached many teams in a range of age groups. All of his teams have two things in common – they play fluid, passing football, and they win just about everything in sight.

His experience as a coach spans 15 years and his qualifications include:

Kevin Barrow - Publisher

Kevin is the Publisher of our soccer coaching titles. He aims to combine his love of football with his experience in newsletter publishing to provide the ultimate training resources to coaches, players and parents. He has been playing football since the age of six and qualified as a referee when he was 16. Kevin currently plays for Guildford City Weysiders where he has been both a player and a manager since joining in 2002. He recently received the FA Level 1 Certificate in Coaching Football.

Kevin spends his time watching football at any level and is a lifelong Arsenal supporter, giving him great experience of beautiful, incisive football. However, as he attends every England home match and the occasional away fixture he has an equal and opposite experience of unattractive, ineffective football.


Duncan Heard - Customer Services Representative

The guardian of our customer service standards, Duncan’s job is to make sure you are happy! If your newsletter is missing, your email address has changed or you’d like to comment on any of our products, for better or for worse, Duncan’s your man.

Duncan hails from Devon and is a former lifeguard, fitness manager and swimming coach. He is also a proud Dad to his two energetic daughters. When not at work, Duncan is a top class bowls player, having won six county titles, most recently he qualified to play in the World Indoor Singles Championships in January 2009. The biggest cross he has to bear is being a supporter of Aldershot Town Football Club.


Julie Heathorn - Accounts Manager and Company Secretary

Kentish lass Julie has been accurately and efficiently managing the accounts and company secretarial duties almost since she joined the company in 1998 with a first class business studies degree.

Julie pays the wages, balances the books and is very strict about paying our bills on time and doubles up as one of the most fastidious proofreaders and researchers the publishing world has ever known. In her spare moments she’s walking her Husky for two hours each morning, and seeing Snow Patrol, Stereophonics or Texas in concert.


Julie Lifton - Production Editor

Julie’s artistic talents don’t just reside in the QuarkXpress, Photoshop and Illustrator programs, as she’s also skilled at batik, stained glass windows and needlepoint. Most of your newsletters, training sessions and reports have been laid out by Julie, who is a graduate of the Reigate School of Art and Design and a regular attendee at evening classes ranging from art to singing.

Theatre, dinner with friends and long walks in the country are her favourite pastimes. At home, Julie has been in the vanguard of those welcoming the rush of foreign labour to these shores by opening her doors to several Polish lodgers.

Paul Mortimer - Head of Marketing

Paul oversees all of Green Star Media's marketing operations. Working closely with his dedicated marketing team, Paul's ability to think strategically and analytically has helped the company emerge as one of the world's largest providers of soccer and rugby coaching information.

Paul has worked extensively on Elite Soccer, the monthly title published in partnership with the League Managers Association (LMA) , helping it attract over 3,000 subscribers.

In his spare time Paul enjoys going to Crystal Palace games, both home and away, playing golf and DIY.

Gary Lloyd – Sub Editor

Gary is the copy checker for most of our subscription publications and puts together the twice-weekly Better Rugby Coaching, Better Football/Soccer Coaching and Footy4Kids newsletters.

Having previously worked as a layout and copy sub for Metro (London), The Sportsman (London), The Argus (Brighton), a range of West London and Buckinghamshire weekly newspapers for Trinity Mirror and Crawley Observer on both sport and news departments, “Lloyd” as he is usually known, has been a journalist for more than 12 years – having started as a reporter on his home-town weekly paper.

- Managing Director

Andrew founded Better Soccer Coaching and is responsible for the company's strategy to publish the best soccer coaching and fitness advice that delights customers and is delivered with unbeatable service. He is proud to have led the company to Investor in People status, reflecting its commitment to develop all employees to their full potential.

Andrew is a former business journalist, soccer and rugby player, and is married with three children, two of whom play soccer regularly.  

Stewart Coggin - Email Marketing Executive

Stewart is responsible for the marketing of Better Soccer /Football Coaching and Better Rugby Coaching . With a passion for Search Engine Optimization, Stewart helps ensure that our vast range of in-depth coaching advice is available to the widest possible audience.

Having previously worked as a journalist for and, Stewart has an in-depth knowledge of football and has possessed an Arsenal season ticket since the 1997/98 season.

Nikki Waugh - Customer Services Representative

Nikki has 10 years' experience in Customer Service and has won awards for outstanding Customer Service and ‘Going the Extra Mile!' in her previous employment.


Having played for the U16 Surrey girl's cricket team and competing for the county in swimming, Nikki enjoys an active lifestyle! Currently she enjoys playing badminton on weekly basis and keeping fit doing Zumba.

When not at home with her African Grey parrot Bert, she enjoys going socialising with friends and family, catching up on Coronation Street and going on hot sunny holiday's.
