Soccer drill for overload situations
Attacking against different numbers of defenders means the difficulty level of this soccer drill is changing each time a goal is scored. For the defence, the ability to anticipate and dictate the passage of play is necessary in order to win the ball when the odds are stacked against them.
Drill tips
The attacking side must conquer the defence faced by one, two, three, then four defenders. It should be easy at first, then get more difficult as defenders are added.
You should be looking for your players to take advantage of the numbers in attack, then use clever moves and skills as the soccer drill progresses.
Set up a pitch 30 x 20 yards and use two teams of four players and one goalkeeper in a goal for this drill.
.
- One team starts the soccer drill as the attacking team.
- One team starts the drill as the defending team.
- The drill is played for four balls, then the roles are reversed.
- To start, the attackers spread out across the pitch and play against a single defender.
- The attacking team receives a pass from the coach and attempt to build up and score in a 4v1 situation.
- After each ball is played, a new defender enters the pitch.
- The attacking team has a total of four attacks (4v1, 4v2, 4v3, 4v4).
- Each time the attackers score, they are awarded a point.
- Each time they fail to score, the defenders are rewarded with a point.
