Encouraging attackers to predict ball direction

Basic soccer coaching tips and strategies to give your attackers the advantage by predicting ball direction.

Sprinting during matches is usually over very short distances, so any advantage an attacker can get by starting their runs early will most certainly mean they get to the ball before the defender.

When your team is on the attack tell your attackers they should try and think ahead and take an educated guess on where the ball is going to go. At 7-a-side there are no off-sides so players can easily make a sound decision when looking for a through pass.

If your midfielders are alert to the opportunity, they can play balls through the defense as soon as they see the attacker move.

This is also true when you have slow attackers. They need a headstart otherwise even if they get to the ball first, they will have no time to control the ball, making it much harder to get a shot away.
