Dribble or pass soccer drill
In this 4v4 football (soccer) session you are coaching players to improve deep defending, stretching play and hitting teams on the counter attack using dribbling and passing skills.
It is vital that your defenders do not get lured towards the ball and leave the opponent they are marking in the clear. This could allow a pass that will put them through on goal. All players must be very disciplined to mark and cover the attackers.

Set up soccer (football) drill
- Set up an area 25 yards by 30 yards.
- Have six goals marked out by cones - three goals opposite each other on the long sides of the playing area.
- Two teams of four players play a game and each team has a different method of scoring.
How to run drill
- The white team drops back to defend their three yellow goals. The black team is aiming to dribble through the gates in order to score.
- If the white team wins possession, their aim is to quickly make a pass forward and through one of the black team’s gates. This represents winning the ball in a game and making a good forward pass into a midfielder's, or forward’s, feet.
