Vary numbers soccer drill tips
Try the following soccer coaching tips to vary the ratio of defenders to attackers and put your players under match-like pressure in training.
Overload soccer tips
Varying the ratio of defenders to attackers increases the pressure on the players concerned to work harder, react better and concentrate on the technical aspects.
If you run defence soccer (football drills) with fewer defenders than attackers it can expose any weaknesses in your players. It also avoids laziness so all defenders remain alert and working.
You can also make it harder for the attackers by adding defenders so they have to work harder to create openings to score goals.
In simple games of defence versus attack, changing numbers can produce ever-changing intensity.
You can give players numbers and during the game shout out that every defender with an odd number must run to their goal and touch the goalpost before they can continue in the soccer game.
The game thus ebbs and flows with more or less players, intensifying the requirements of defence and attack it also promotes those rejoining the game to react while out of position.
