Soccer coaching tips to deal with late arrivals
At any soccer coaching session you will inevitably get some young players who arrive too early and some who are late. Both cause problems, especially if you only have the training pitch booked for a certain amount of time with limited floodlight time. Use the following soccer coaching tips to make the best of the situation.
Soccer coaching tips to deal with early arrivals
Early arrivals usually play with a ball between them, sometimes just passing and chatting but at other times in a more competitive and aggressive game. There is no problem in that, except that it can make your players more difficult to bring down to warm-up level for the drills when they start.
The players may find it difficult to focus or concentrate as you start your coaching session. Often if these young players have got stuck into a game with a friend, they'll probably want to continue this rather than settle down for training.
In my experience trying to give too much direction to the early arrivals is counter-productive, instead talk to them with quiet reminders on how they are passing and using both feet to kick and pass with. This helps your young players realise they are in a soccer coaching environment and makes them more ready for the coaching session that follows.
Soccer coaching tips to deal with late arrivals
Some players may be late, with or without a valid excuse. Do you start without them? The answer should always be yes. When the players do arrive, remind them of the time and then let them watch what you are doing for a few minutes before letting them join in. Latecomers can be very disruptive as they greet their friends.
