Soccer coaching tips for goalkicks

You don't want your goalkeeper giving away the ball too easily. Make it a matter of pride that he doesn’t gift the opposition the ball at goalkicks by focusing on the following skills in your soccer training sessions.

With the right coaching and skills, your goalkeeper should consistently put the opposition under pressure with long and high goalkicks.

Get your keeper to think about when to speed things up and when to slow things down. This way they really can help turn defence into attack.

Soccer coaching tips to help your players:

  • Tell them to make it a matter of personal pride that they can kick longer and higher than most goalkeepers their age.

  • Kicking out of hand is fairly easy to master, but goalkicks with a stationary ball are the true test. Get your goalie to practise these moves.

  • Practise launching a goalkick high over the half-way line.

  • Quickly throwing or rolling the ball to your full-back or one of your defensive midfielders is a great way to turn defence into attack.
